Back from the Desert

Ink stains fingers
Inverted chroma cognition
Familiar words from alien lips
A hiccup of shadows
     Darkness
          Stillness
               Cocoon

Flume of hot wind
Desert sand whips hair
Soldered eyes block granules
Teeth clench tongue
     Hunkered
          Immobile
               Fetal

Two days, three, nine
Night glow permeates
Ventriloquist of daylight
Type and shadow senses
     Captured
         Surrender
               Defeat

Khamsin gasps silenced
Sand particles levitate mid air
Soft wool around shoulders
Spirit whispers comfort
     Rescued
          Return
               Home

Waft of chamomile
Walls and roof surround
Shelter fire in hearth
Melody hums and croons
     Oasis
          Haven
               Father

Nubs protrude skin
Down transplants hair
Sheen of white and pearl
Wings unfold for flight
     Restored
          Transformed
               Phoenix

  1. Berna this is just beautiful. It looks and feels like a desert sandstorm while reminding us that storms pass. Love the idea of being “restored transformed phoenix” – we go round and round to return to what we know, only wiser.

    • Heck? That’s not the word i thought of :), Thanks for your comments, Actually you helped me with your thought of a phoenix. Can’t think of a better transformation. Also, you helped me understand the depth of tough feelings. So thank you!
